One More Day in LA? Yes, Please.
As a California native, I’m always going to have a soft spot for sunshine, beaches, and some of the best Mexican food north of the border (and yes, I’ve been to other states — sorry, but California still wins). If you’re flying out of LAX soon, don’t rush home just yet. Adding just one more day in Los Angeles or better yet, Santa Barbara, could turn your trip from great to unforgettable.
LA’s Got It All
Whether you’re winding down from a Mexico cruise, hopping off a Hawaiian escape, or just wrapping up a West Coast adventure, LA is one of those cities that gives you options. Even with just 24 hours, here’s how you can soak up the vibe:
Get outside: Hike up to Griffith Observatory or Runyon Canyon for those iconic skyline views (and yes, perfect Hollywood Sign selfies).
Hit the beach: Venice Beach brings all the quirky boardwalk energy, or head to Santa Monica for a classic California sunset on the pier.
Eat your heart out: From taco trucks and Korean BBQ to rooftop brunches with skyline views, LA’s food scene always delivers.
Get your culture fix: Browse masterpieces at The Getty or dive into contemporary cool at The Broad. Both are absolute gems.

Or… Detour to Santa Barbara
If you’re up for a quick escape, Santa Barbara is just about 90 minutes away and feels like a whole new world—coastal charm, great wine, and Spanish-style everything.
I’m extra biased on this one because this is where I grew up. My first real start in the travel and hospitality industry began at the Harbor View Inn, right across from the beach. No matter where you are in Santa Barbara, the ocean is just a few minutes away and so is great food.
Some of my all-time favorites:
Lilly’s Tacos — hands down the best in town.
Chubbies Burgers for a classic burger and shake combo that hits the spot.
Rusty’s Pizza, a local staple and my ultimate comfort food.
If you head north to Goleta, The Habit Burger was born there. Even though it’s now a nationwide chain, their locations are usually decorated with photos of Santa Barbara. I love the nostalgia every time I walk into one across the country.
If you're in the area during the summer, check out:
The Summer Solstice Celebration in June — colorful, creative, and so much fun.
Old Spanish Days Fiesta in August — full of tradition, dancing, and incredible food.
And of course, no trip is complete without:
Exploring the Urban Wine Trail for coastal sips and chill vibes.
A relaxing moment at Butterfly Beach or renting a kayak for a little ocean adventure.
A walk through the Funk Zone — it’s artsy, colorful, and packed with great spots to eat, shop, and wander.
Old Mission Santa Barbara for some California history and the perfect photo op.
